“Thank you for the poem which has finally caught up with me. I like it very much and feel you’ve captured so much of the feeling of the piece.”

With best wishes,
Jerome Robbins

In order to wait the length of time it can take to be published through the publishing houses in the U.S. and abroad today, Melanie decided to self-publish a few of her older books. These books include: Symphony in C Dance Spirit Poems, The Middle Princess, and Hilarede Centipede: A Many Shoe Adventure. None of these books carry ISBN#s and must be purchased through the author or lulu.com.

Melanie has been a quarterfinalist in the Writers Network Fiction and Screenplay Competition for screenplays and novels, and an honorable mention winner in the children’s fiction category of the Writers Digest Annual Writing Contest.

In the late 1990s, Melanie worked on the independent screwball romantic comedy, Garden, written and directed by Dennis Conway, Bansheewail Productions, NJ. She served as creative/ casting consultant, A.D., and production coordinator, wrote additional dialogue, and created some of the graphics for the film. When someone dropped the ball and forgot to invite Susan Sarandon to join the cast, Melanie inherited the voiceover part of Helen, who appears in the film as a beautiful air freshner on the white walls of the laboratory. Making the film was a learning experience and a comedy in itself.

Melanie also enjoys being an extra on films and appeared as a member of the audience in the dance film, “Center Stage.” More recently, she played a juror in the drama, “Betty Anne Waters,” which filmed in Jackson, MI in February.

Melanie is a former contributing editor for the Wood County Park District’s Oak Leaf News and Program Guide, and former contributing e-newsletter editor for the Northwest Ohio Writers Forum. She holds a Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where she combined Psychology, English, Dance, and Design.

After dancing professionally for a short time, Melanie pursued graduate studies at New York University in Dance Education and Creative Arts and has had a lifelong involvement with ballet, modern dance and Laban Effort-Shape. She currently practices several types of movement meditation including Katsugen, a gift given to her by Koji Yamamoto at Omega Institute in New York. Melanie has choreographed for WBGU-TV, Cassandra Ballet, NYU, BGSU, and her own small touring group.

“This is absolutely WONDERFUL! You have remarkable talent. Your tenderness is very real, your voice polished.
The ’story’ is extraordinary but it’s not a story. It’s a novel…
Just wonderful work.”
